CURATIVE EFFECTS OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF PALISOTA HIRSUTA ON NEPHROTOXICITY INDUCED BY CARBON TETRACHLORIDE

This work was done to evaluate the effect of ethanolic extract Palisota hirsuta on nephrotoxicity induced by carbontetrachloride (CCl4). Biochemical analyses were carried out determine levels creatinine, urea, total protein, chloride, carbonate using assay kits (products Randox Laboratories Crumlin and Teco Diagnostics), sodium, potassium (method Tietz,) malondialdelyde (MDA) level (thiobarbituric acid assay) activities catalase superoxide dismutase (SOD). Consequently, twenty-five albino rats divided into 5 groups each, animals fed mash water ad libitum. Group 1 (positive control) administered only 0.5 ml/kg body weight groundnut oil while 2, 3, 4 with CCl4 (1:1).The plant extracts not 2; 200, 400 800 mg/kg respectively. Results showed increased reduced protein SOD activity in group CCl4, but given drug (negative control). These effects ameliorated at different dose administration extract. therefore demonstrates protective P.hirsuta against CCL4
